A Washington man was in Chile this weekend when one of the largest recorded earthquakes struck the South American Nation. Dave Mackinson works for Syngenta. He travels to Chile this time of year to help conduct a parent seed program. He tells KCII he was driving near his home in the Chilean Capital of Santiago when the quake hit. He says he noticed explosions from utility poles being destroyed by the shaking. Mackinson says even though this earthquake was more powerful than the one that struck Haiti in January, the damage is less severe because Chile’s government and infrastructure are much more stable.
