2A and 1A title games go down to the wire

The Class 1A and 2A championship games were played last night and it turned out to be a couple of close games.

Girls State Basketball Tournament wraps up tonight

The 3A and 4A championship games are this evening. First in Class 3A, Waukon will face Sioux City Bishop Heelan. Both teams are 25-1 on the season. In 4A, it will be the battle of two unbeatens. Linn-Mar at 25-0 will take on 25-0 Des Moines East. The game will feature Linn-Mar’s Kiah Stokes who is receiving quite a bit of division one college interest. Linn-Mar is coming off a 58-53 semifinal win over Cedar Rapids Kennedy. Des Moines East beat Waukee 50-49 to earn their place in the title game.

Washington to Purchase Marion Avene Property to Facilitate Building Demolition

Washington is looking at purchasing a piece of property from the Marion Avenue Baptist Church. City Administrator Dave Plymann says the structure sitting on the site was heavily damaged when a nearby building collapsed in 2006.
