The Washington Demon baseball and softball teams are anticipating a strong plate presence this upcoming season thanks to a new hitting facility. This is the first off season the Washington Demon baseball and softball teams have had their hitting facility that sits in between the two fields at the junior high. Demon Softball Coach Angie Shrader says they were limited in what they could do in the off season prior to this year. The softball team had a six week hitting program and are still getting in the cage. Demon Baseball Coach Nathan Miller says the baseball team had a similar program where they created a game with a scoring system based on hit placement. Miller says they had teams of four competing in a regular season and then a post season tournament. He says one thing they’ve been doing is showing the kids some serious heat. While some pitching machines throw special balls for the hitting machine, one of their pitching machines can throw game baseballs, and Miller says they been cranking it up to around 85 mph. The facility was built last summer and early fall through efforts from the booster club and a grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation.
