An Alliant Energy subsidiary plans to raise their electric rates for many Iowa customers this weekend despite a letter from Governor Chet Culver asking them not to. Interstate Power and Light President Tom Aller says they will implement a 10-percent increase in accordance with state law. The hike is part of a long range plan to increase rates by 14-percent. Iowa law allows for a 10-percent interim increase, while state regulators consider the larger hike.
