press play to hear from interim Washington Co. Engineer Jacob Thorius
It would appear that counties in Iowa stick together. Calhoun County in the northwest part of the state is asking Washington County and other fellow Iowa State Association of Counties Members for help paying for a legal dispute with a railroad company. Interim Washington County Engineer Jacob Thorius says a District Court ruled in favor of Calhoun County, but that the decision will likely be appealed. Thorius says Washington County asked for assistance through ISAC when they were involved in a lawsuit with a railroad over a bridge that had burned down. He says in that case Calhoun County pitched in. He’s recommending Washington County do so in this case.
