press play to hear from Rick Marlar

A Wayland man who’s running for a seat in the State Senate is clarifying comments he made about his candidacy as a Republican. Rick Marlar had initially told KCII’s In Touch With Southeast Iowa the GOP had asked him to run. Marlar says he misspoke, and has not been formally asked by any Republican leadership to seek the party’s nomination. He says he was encouraged by Drew Ivers to run as a Republican. Marlar describes Ivers as “prominent” member of the party. As it stands now, Marlar will face Keosauqua residents Dan Cesar and Randy Besick in the Republican Primary. The winner will face off against Democratic Incumbent Becky Schmitz.
