Influenza and H1N1 aren’t the only viruses on the rise during this flu season. A respiratory illness known as R-S-V is at high levels in Iowa and surrounding states. This is typical for this time of year. R-S-V can occur at any age, but is most common with children. Public Health Program Director at Washington County Public Health Chrystal Woeller says the most common cause of pneumonia and bronchiolitis is from R-S-V. Most infected with R-S-V recover in one to two weeks. There is no vaccine for the virus, so covering coughs and sneezes and washing your hands is essential to prevent the spreading of R-S-V.
