Fire Destroys Barn Near Kalona

A fire in rural Kalona late Monday night destroyed a pole barn and its contents. The Washington County Communications Center says firefighters from Kalona, Riverside and Wellman were called to the building owned by Kevin and Judy Christiansen at about 10:30 pm. No injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office. Firefighters were again called to the scene Tuesday morning when the fire rekindled due to some hot spots.
