Many Washington County residents got a crash course on zoning this week from a man who helped draft the proposed ordinance. Gary Lozano is with RDG Planning and Design. Lozano says zoning hasn’t been without its drawbacks. Still, he says there isn’t really much of an alternative to accomplish what zoning aims to do. He says the core goal of zoning is to protect investments by keeping incompatible land uses separate from each other. One example would be an asphalt plant locating next to a residential development.
