Many parts of Iowa are on pace to, or have already broken snowfall records for the month of December. However, State Climatologist Harry Hillaker says eastern Iowa was spared from the brunt the two most recent winter storms. Hillaker says portions of western Iowa were hit the hardest by the storm that rolled through over Christmas weekend. Hillaker says it’s interesting to note that there’s an El Nino event in the Pacific Ocean. He says that usually means a mild Midwest winter.
