Washington voters said no to a hotel-motel tax this year. One person who was happy with the election results was Hawkeye Motel Owner Gordon Olberding. He contended that Washington wasn’t a tourist spot and that most of his customers were in town for businesses. Others, like Washington Tourism Committee Member Gary McCurdy, said the tax could’ve been a good thing for people like Olberding. McCurdy says the money would’ve been used to attract more visitors to Washington, thus creating more businesses for hotels. Had it been approved, the tax would’ve collect seven percent of gross receipts collected from renting rooms
