The American Cancer Society is urging people to quit smoking…even if only for a day. Today (11/19) is the organization’s Great American Smokeout. ACS Spokesman Chuck Reed says they of course hope people will continue to abstain from tobacco in the long term. The Great American Smokeout started in the 1970’s when a Massachusetts resident asked people to give up smoking for a day and donate the money they would’ve spent on tobacco to a local school. ACS took the event nationwide in 1977.
